StarCraft Patch v1.16.1 (Windows)
If you have Brood War and copied and pasted it into your Starcraft folder only Brood War will work without CD. If you want the original Starcraft to play without CD do the same. After both are done now you may select both versions without CD. For Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty on the PC, a GameFAQs message board topic titled 'after install do you need the cd to play'.
Playing Starcraft Without Cd
This is a new minor patch for Starcraft that will allow you to play the game without the need of the game CD as well as fixing a few minor issues.

Feature Changes
In-game chat is now saved in replays. Note: whispers are not saved.
Hitting the Escape key while in the chat room will clear your typed text.
'/reply' (or just '/r') will send a whisper to person who most recently whispered you.
Bug Fixes
Fixed localization issues with 'from' and 'to' in whispers.
Starcraft now only uses as much CPU as it needs to run smoothly.
Exploits
Fixed an exploit which allowed Zerg players to gain minerals through mutations. Easy auto clicker 2 0.
Fixed an exploit which allowed Zerg players to recycle an upgrading building.
Fixed an exploit which allowed Zerg players to extend their creep with a drone.
Fixed an exploit which allowed Zerg players to move Drones over impassable terrain.
Fixed an exploit which allowed Terran players to drop a nuke anywhere on the map.

Windows Users
- Make sure you have 'Hide extensions for known types' unchecked. To do this please use the following steps:
- Click Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer
- Click on Tools -> Folder options (Windows Vista users may have to press the Alt key to see the tools option at the top of the window)
- Click on the View Tab In the list, look for the 'Hide extensions for known file types' option, and make sure that it is unchecked.
- Now you will need to copy some files from the Game CDs
- If you own only StarCraft, copy 'INSTALL.EXE' from the StarCraft CD to your StarCraft folder and rename it to 'StarCraft.mpq'.
- If you own StarCraft: Brood War, copy 'INSTALL.EXE' from the StarCraft: Brood War CD to your StarCraft folder and rename it to 'BroodWar.mpq'. If you wish to play the StarCraft original missions then please copy and rename the install file from the original StarCraft CD as well, as listed directly above.
- Run the latest patches of StarCraft and/or Brood War for the software to detect the '.mpq' files.
Mac users
- If you own only StarCraft, copy 'StarCraft Archive' from the StarCraft CD to your StarCraft/StarCraft Files/ folder.
- If you own StarCraft: Brood War, copy 'Brood War Archive' from the StarCraft: Brood War CD to your StarCraft/StarCraft Files/ folder. If you wish to play the StarCraft original missions then please copy the Starcraft Archive file from the original StarCraft CD as well, as listed directly above.
